Assistive Technology

The East Library provides an Assistive Technology workstation for visually impaired, blind, physically disabled, and learning impaired patrons.

The workstation includes:

  • Adjustable table and wrist rests
  • Large-print keyboard
  • Track ball mouse
  • Headphones and microphone
  • Speakers
  • Scanner.

Programs available include:

  • JAWS: Screen reader for blind and low vision users
  • Magic: Screen magnifier
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking: Voice recognition program. The user can control the computer by speaking to it.
  • OpenBook: Scanning/reading program. Printed material can be scanned and converted to synthesized speech.
