Who can get a library card?

PPLD's library card is available, free, to all children and adults living within Pikes Peak Library District, -- most of El Paso County -- including School District #s 1, 2, 8, 11,12, 20, 22, 23, 28, 38, 49, 54, and 60.

Where can I use my library card?

You can use your library card at any of the 12 library facilities or 2 Mobile Libraries in the District. You can also use your library card on our website and online Catalog.  And, because we are part of the Colorado Library Card program, you may use it at every participating library in the state.

What resources can I access online with my library card number and PIN?

You can use your card number and PIN (personal identification number) to access the following online:

  • Renew materials
  • Reserve - or Hold - materials
  • Receive email notices when your holds are available
  • Receive email notices the day before your materials are due
  • Check your account status for fines and overdue materials
  • Receive notices when the Library gets new material by your favorite author or subject
  • Update your phone number, and email address

Besides having access to over a million books, video, CDs, tapes, and magazines, with your library card number and PIN, students can get also homework help on the Library’s website. Your library card number and PIN gives you special access to:

  • "Ask a Librarian" for email help answering quick, factual questions
  • Full-text magazine articles in Electronic Reference under "magazines"
  • Pictures and graphics like state flags, and maps on SIRS DISCOVERER
  • An Animal Encyclopedia in SEARCHASAURUS
  • ENCYCLOPEDIA AMERICAN or GROLIER’S ENCYCLOPEDIA
  • Kids encyclopedias under SEARCHASAURUS and SIRS DISCOVERER
  • Fast facts, full-text articles, book lists and specific Web resources on thousands of people from Martin Luther King to Ricky Martin, under BIOGRAPHY RESOURCE CENTER
  • Facts about authors, and book lists under LITERATURE RESOURCE CENTER
  • Websites for common school assignments under HOMEWORK HELPERS
  • An almanac, dictionary and thesaurus for students under SIRS DISCOVERER
  • Book suggestions in NOVELIST
